Banking sector is growing at rapid pace in India. Hence there are good number of job opportunities for the candidates in banking sector.

One can apply for this exam in online mode only. But the payment of fees can be made either by online or offline.One should have completed Graduation with any of the stream in order to be eligible to apply for clerical positions. But in order to be eligible to apply for PO positions, it is must that the candidate should score minimum 60% of marks in Graduation from a recognized university.

These are the new rules which will be effecting from this academic year.You did not mention your highest academic qualification.If you possess the above mentioned eligibility criteria, you can apply for IBPS exam for the respective positions.

Better to start preparation by taking coaching from a coaching institute so that it will be easy for you to crack the exam.Many candidates will face problems in getting good score in the area of General Awareness.So, try to put more concentration on this area. There is negative marking in the written exam. So, try to be accurate while answering various aptitude and logical questions.


IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) is conducting common written exams separately for the recruitment of following positions..

  • Clerical positions
  • Probationary Officers
  • Specialist Officers

 IBPS conducts exam for the 20 nationalized banks of India and sbi conducts exam for its own subsidiary banks , 

Eligibility for clerk/po exams :
  1. applicant must be a citizen of india 
  2. must possess a graduation degree 
  3. must have minimum 60% for po in graduation 
  4. 5% relaxation for sc/st candidates 
  5. no % ge criteria for clerical exam 
  6. must possess a computer certificate 
  7. age limit is 20-28 years 
  8. 3 years age relaxation for obc candidates 
  9. 5 years relaxation for sc/st candidates 

 BANK CLERK & PO written exams consists of 5 sections

  • Quantitative ability
  • Reasoning ability
  • Computer knowledge
  • English language
  • General awareness with special reference to banking industry.

Types of Bank Exams:
Generally, the bank examinations are of the following types :
A series of Common Written Examinations (CWEs) conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) as a prerequisite for the selection of personnel for Probationary Officer / Management Trainee / Clerk / Specialist Officer posts in 20 Public Sector banks (IDBI is new entrant) and for Officers and Office Assistants in 82 Regional Rural Banks
Exam conducted by SBI and SBI Associate banks for recruitment to the posts of clerks and officers
Exam conducted by Private Sector banks for recruitment to the posts of Clerks and officers (Some of the old Private banks like KVB,TMB,KB have started to consider the IBPS CWE score for the recruitment of Clerks and Probationary officers. Even new private banks like Federal Bank are also recruiting on the basis of IBPS CWE scores)

Patterns of Bank Exams
Both P.O. and clerical recruitments comprise at least two stages of exams, viz. a written test, and an interview. The written test normally comprises an objective type test and a descriptive test (for PO exams like SBI, NICL, RBI etc.). There is no descriptive test for clerical exams. The interview is normally a personal interview or sometimes, a combination of group discussion and personal interview. 
Bank PO/Clerical Exams: Almost all bank exams have gone the online mode from the traditional pen-paper mode. The test areas in the objective type test of PO/Clerical exams include tests from amongst Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, English language, Marketing Aptitude and Computer Knowledge. The Descriptive Writing Test (for PO exams like SBI, NICL, RBI etc.). is to check the proficiency of the student in English Language. It would consist of a test on English Composition comprising Letter Writing, Essay Writing, Precis Writing etc

SBI/SBI Associate Banks Clerks 20-28 Years Degree in any discipline from a recorgnised university or any equivalent qualification
- Age as on date specified in the notification 
- Relaxation in age for reserved categories as per rules. 
Computer Literacy: 
Some banks insist that the candidate should posses working knowledge of computers before joining the bank and few banks mention that the desired computer skills may be acquired within six months of joining the bank. If a candidate has not studied computers as one of the subjects in school/college, the candidate must possess a valid diploma (basic applications) in computers. 

Language Proficiency:
Public Sector Banks:
Since clerical cadre recruitment would be on State-wise basis, the candidate may also be required to possess proficiency in the Official Language of the State/UT for which vacancies he wishes to apply. 
Regional Rural Banks :
For Office Assistants (Clerks) and Scale-I Officers ---- Candidates are required to possess proficiency in the Official Language of the State/UT in which RRB is located and must have passed "local language" as one of the subjects at Matriculation/Xth Standard 
As every bank is free to decide the eligibility criteria for its officers or clerks, the candidates must read the notification carefully and ensure their eligibility before making an application.

How to apply:
Before applying online, candidates should 
(i) scan their photograph and signature ensuring that the both the photograph and signature are within the required specifications as given in the notification. 
(ii) keep the application fee remittance details (Transaction details such as NEFT UTR No., IFSC Code etc.) ready in case of cash payment through NEFT enabled branches . Keep the necessary details/ documents ready in order to make online payment of the requisite application fee. 
(iii) have a valid personal email ID, which should be kept active till the declaration of results  Fee payment: Candidates have the option of:
(1) ONLINE MODE of payment of requisite fees or 
(2) OFFLINE MODE i.e. payment of fees through NEFT-enabled branches 

Filling in the Online Application: Candidates should carefully fill in the details in the On-Line Application at the appropriate places very carefully and click on the “SUBMIT” button at the end of each page. Before pressing the “SUBMIT” button, candidates are advised to verify every particular filled in the application. The name of the candidate or his /her father/husband etc. should be spelt correctly in the application as it appears in the certificates/mark sheets. Any change/alteration found may disqualify the candidature. 

After applying on-line, the candidate should immediately take a printout of the system-generated on-line application form, ensure that the particulars filled in are accurate and retain it for future reference. Please note that all the particulars mentioned in the online application including Name of the Candidate, Category, Date of birth, Address, Email ID, Centre of Examination etc. will be considered as final and no modifications will be allowed after the last date specified for Editing/ Updating the same. Candidates are hence requested to fill in the online application form with utmost care as no correspondence regarding change of details will be entertained.
